Our mission is to protect and defend human life, honouring the unique and unrepeatable dignity of every person.
We offer personal accompaniment to expectant mothers and to mothers caring for young children, with particular attention to those living in exclusion, poverty and insecurity.
Our origins
A mission born of love for life
Mary’s Children Mission was born from the vocation of missionary Fernando Gutiérrez (Madrid, 1982), deeply rooted in the spirituality of Mother Teresa of Calcutta. After years of missionary experience in Calcutta, Mozambique, Ethiopia and Chile, he trained with the Missionaries of Charity Fathers in Rome (2018) and in Kenya (from 2019).
It was in Calcutta that he discovered a very specific calling: to protect the lives of the most vulnerable, unborn children and their mothers. In July 2021, during his weekly apostolate, he met María Shirima, a nine-year-old girl suffering from severe malnutrition and cerebral palsy. From that encounter, and with the support of his superiors and the bishop of the Diocese of Ngong, Mary’s Children Mission was born.

Volunteering
Experience the mission from within
Mary’s Children Mission welcomes volunteers who wish to spend a few weeks with the mothers and children of Ngong. During their stay they accompany the children at the Greensteps nursery, visit families in the slum and Mother Teresa’s Homes in Nairobi, and help with work camps and other nearby missions.
Each volunteer covers their own travel and stay as a direct contribution to the mission. If you would like to take part, write to us at heavenbelongstochildren@gmail.com and we will guide you through the whole process.
